Android devices can vary since they are made by many brands, so sometimes Android learners need to adjust their device settings to successfully connect to MIDI. Here are a few tips we have found help Android users connect to MIDI:
Tip #1: Make sure you connect to MIDI before entering a course. Note that our touch courses, Touch Intro and Keep in Touch, respond to the on-screen keyboard instead of your keyboard or MIDI. Switch to any of the other courses for MIDI to respond.
Tip #2: Make sure your adapter is OTG enabled. You should see OTG in the title of the product.
Tip #3: If you are using a MIDI cable, make sure the IN cable is connected to the OUT port and vice-versa.
Tip #4: We haven't tried out every cable out there, but we have seen that this particular cable has mixed results, so we do not recommend it. If you did purchase it and you're getting inconsistent recognition, we recommend you exchange it for another one ⬇️
Tip #5: In the app, go to Menu > Settings > Note Recognition Issues and scroll down to MIDI Troubleshooting. Check the box to Use Android MIDI Services and restart your device.
Tip #6: Open the settings of your device and search for OTG. Open this setting and make sure to enable USB / OTG Storage.
Tip #7: Go to Developer Options, and under Networking > USB configuration > select MIDI. Next, in Developer Options, turn "Disable USB Audio Routing" ON .
